Last night we were popping some flavoured popcorn, I looked at the contents on the cover and saw that it contained Monosodium glutamate (MSG)[it might also be referred to as ajinomoto(trademark name?) ]. It is usually used to enhance flavour and is usually sold as white crystals which dissolve in water/saliva .
Earlier it was usually used only in fast food outlets for food items like chilly chicken and other chinese foods. But it is now being widely used even in simple curries like sambar in vegeterian hotels. It is also turning up in many processed foods also.
